How to recover disk?

I lost all of my data from my hard disk. Unfortunately I had only one partition “C”. I had windows XP installed on it. A friend of mine suggested me to install windows 7, because it is more reliable as compared to XP. While installing windows 7, I formatted partition C and I remembered that all the necessary files have been formatted. Now, how can I recover the disk to get my files back? How to recover disk

Remember; always make at least two partitions for your hard drive. One partition for your operating system, while the others to store your valuable data.
