My DVD Rom has stopped working and now it is disabled. I want to install a fresh copy of Windows 7. Today I arranged Samsung external DVD writer and attached it with my system. I checked the boot options in BIOS but I couldn’t find. How to boot my laptop from external optical drive?
Well there are several methods to boot your laptop. However, if you want to boot it from external optical drive then follow these steps.
- Attach the external optical drive.
- Restart the computer.
- Go to BIOS by pressing F8; however in some PCs it is F1 or F2.
- Change the boot order there. Make the external drive on the top of the list.
- Save the settings.
- Keep DVD disc in the drive.
- Reboot the computer.
If your laptop doesn’t boot then check the external optical drive cable and make sure that the drive is in healthy condition.
Alternative Method:
You can also use USB drive to boot from.
- You can use a third party software program to make your USB drive bootable.
- Using the software, you will select the drive from which you want to take image and another drive (USB drive) to which you want to copy the image and start the process.
- An image of your DVD Rom will be created on the USB drive.
- After completing the process, you will need to go to BIOS and change the BOOT order.
- Select USB Drive as the first boot device.
- After restarting the computer the USB drive will act like the CD/DVD Rom and you will be able to boot as well as install Windows from USB drive.
