Files Disappear Then Reappear After Reboot

I have WD WD10000H1U-00 1 TB external drive. Till today it was working perfectly but last night it started to act very strangely. The drive and everything was available but the files along with directories got disappeared. Ultimately windows showed me empty drive. The strange thing happened when I reboot my PC, I could see the files again. I tried Chkdsk utility, but it didn’t give any error. What is the problem that files disappear then reappear after reboot? Are there further tests so that I may run to find the problem?
